The urates are your daily readout
Urates are the white part passed alongside the feces. Healthy ones are soft, white and semi-solid. Hard, chalky, gritty or absent means dehydration. Yellow or orange is commonly put down to dehydration but is also associated with kidney problems, so persistent discoloration is a vet question.
The skin tent test, and its limits
Pinch a fold of skin on the side of the body and release. Hydrated skin drops straight back; skin that stays tented suggests a deficit.
Morph note. Silkbacks lose water evaporatively at roughly twice the rate of normal-scaled dragons, with leatherbacks in between, scales are a water barrier.[4] Anyone keeping one has to treat hydration as a daily task rather than a background condition.
