In 2020 I brought home a bearded dragon named Sunny. I read the care sheets, watched the videos, and everywhere I looked, the advice contradicted what I’d just read. One source swore by sand, the next called it dangerous. I wasn’t lazy. I wasn’t careless. I was drowning.

I joined a Facebook group that grew to over 100,000 keepers. There, I was able to learn and collaborate with a community to improve Sunny’s quality of life. Then in 2024, out of nowhere, I lost Sunny. Beardie Supply Co. brings together the resources I needed all along so that I can potentially help others avoid the mistakes I made.

When did you last change your UVB bulb?

A UVB bulb keeps glowing for years after its UV output dies. If yours is past 12 months, your dragon is basking under a desk lamp. Our guide gives you the target UV index, the distance to set it at, and how to check it.

  • · Coil bulbs don’t cover a basking zone. Use T5 HO tubes.
  • · Target UVI 3 to 5 at the basking site, measured, not assumed.
  • · Mesh tops block anywhere from 12 to 70% of UVB by brand. The guide lists measured figures.
  • · Replace tubes on the maker’s interval. Set the reminder at 11 months so the new one is in hand.
