6.3 notes that gaping is a respiratory infection symptom “when not simply basking.” That caveat is doing a lot of work, so here is how to split it.
A bearded dragon has no sweat glands and can’t pant in the mammalian sense, but it can dump heat by opening its mouth and increasing evaporative loss from the oral mucosa. A dragon that reaches its target body temperature under a correct lamp and then gapes is doing exactly what it should. It’s the lizard equivalent of taking your coat off, and it’s evidence the basking site is working rather than evidence it’s too hot.

Respiratory distress in a reptile is an emergency. 6.3 is right that there are no at-home remedies. A dragon gaping with an extended neck and visible effort is a same-day call to an exotic vet, not a monitor-it-for-a-week situation.
