Stuck shed on toes and the tail tip is an emergency
This is the part of shedding that costs animals body parts, and it’s quiet enough that keepers routinely miss it.
Retained shed on a toe or the tail tip doesn’t just sit there. Each cycle adds another layer to the same spot until the layers form a ring that works like a tourniquet.
Successive layers of retained skin can form constricting rings around the toes and tail, resulting in restriction of the blood supply to the affected area. Eventually, the constriction results in avascular necrosis beyond the constriction point.

It’s more common in juveniles kept at low humidity, exactly the animals most likely to be in a bare setup with the humidity deliberately suppressed.
Treatment at that point is removal of the dead ring, or amputation of the toe or tail segment. Most dragons recover well and live normally afterwards, but only if it’s caught before the necrosis climbs.
